The days are shorter and colder, so finding motivation to be innovative could be a hard task. Some simple tips to remember can make a huge difference and can be the motivator that we all need! We’ve made a list of four simple steps you can take to stay motivated this winter and the rest of the year!
Setting goals seems like a no brainer. The reality is that most of us get started with something thinking we’ll be motivated only to find out that we lose sight as soon as we get distracted.
When setting goals make sure you write them down use a calendars, your phone – the Edison Nation Sparks app is a great tool – or just on a plain pad and paper. Also make a list that you can check off. Checking things off to do lists is proven to release dopamine in the brain which is likely to make you want to repeat this action (it works for me!). When you set goals and begin checking them off you’re likely to stay motivated to achieve the long term goals you’ve set.
Develop a Focus Plan
With all the external distractions this time of year; holiday festivities, busy work schedules and more, our focus is shifted in many different directions. For inventors especially, there needs to be a balance. Learning this balance isn’t easy and what works for one person may not work for the next.
When developing your plan to keep focused in the winter months you need to make sure that you prioritize your goals. Create a plan that is attainable that you can hold yourself accountable for. It doesn’t need to be drastic, small steps can make a big difference along the way.
Enjoy The Holidays
Take time to enjoy your holiday break and relax your mind. When you take time to relax your mind and body you are sure to come back more motivated and energized than if you obsess to much over an idea 24/7.
Make sure to use the upcoming holiday break to spend time with family and friends to clear your mind. When you get back to your tasks you will be ready and refreshed!
Take some time for yourself during these holiday times as well! A little “me time” can go a long way.
Be Prepared For The Unknown
Successful inventors didn’t become a success overnight.Thomas Edison said it best, “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”
As most know, you have to be willing to take a risk, try new approaches and re-evaluate your idea to achieve success. When you have an idea that becomes declined do your best to analyze why, and, if you’re an Edison Nation Insider, review the feedback. If you’re not an Insider, there are other great resources, check out the blog on mass marketability.
We hope these tips help you stay motivated and creative this winter! Remember to enjoy these winter months. You’ll get the most of each month by finding a balance that works for you. If you have tips to share that help you stay motivated during the winter months let us know in the comments below!
