Edison Nation

Selections have been made from our Boy Scouts of America Innovation Challenge. Congrats to Ian Wesley (7th grade) of Westerville, OH and Zach Huebner (8th grade) of Naperville, IL – their invention ideas will be developed and brought to market! Learn a little more about these two young inventors and how their ideas came about below!

Ian Wesley

“I invented my patent-pending idea, the ShowerLine Caddy, when I was 9 years old  while I was at Camp Lazarus with my Cub Scout Pack. I invented it because I didn’t want to set my shower items on the shower floor at camp. I also didn’t like carrying all my bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash to the shower house from my campsite. Now I use it every time I shower, both at home and on trips.”

Did Scouting help you come up with your idea ?
Yes! Scouting is the entire reason I came up with my invention. Well, scouting and needing to take a shower.

Who is your invention hero and why?
Cherylyn Rushton who organized both the Invention Convention & Bridge the Gap.  Being a part of Bridge the Gap helped me refine ShowerLine from my original prototype. 

Zach Huebner

“I came up with my idea when I heard about the Boy Scouts search; I wanted to come up with an idea to submit. I hope to see my product help a considerable amount of people.”

Did Scouting help you come up with your idea ?
Scouting inspired me to take initiative.

Who is your invention hero and why?
If I had to pick one then it would be Thomas Edison because he invented electrical devices which have had a great impact on my life.
